Barack Obama was elected on this day as the 44th president of the United states. He was in office from January 20 of 2009 to January 20 of 2017. He was the first African American to be elected as president. Before being president he served as a United States Senator in Illinois from 2005 to 2008. He got his education at Columbia College from 1981 to 1983 and at Harvard Law School from 1988 to 1983. He was also married to Michelle Obama who was an American lawyer, university administrator, and writer who served as the first lady of the United States.
