the first dvd's became available to the general public on the 25th of march 1997 along with the first DVD players and surpassed sales of both vcr's and videotapes with the first ever dvd being twister being sold for £22 on the 25th of march 1997 and there was a second video format war of sorts between Sony with there compact disk and Toshiba with there with there super density disk as they competed to be the superior model however after pour sales of both they both backed the dvd on there respective devises. i believe the dvd is a key point on the timeline as it almost marks the end of an era as it took the place of the vhs single handily killing the vhs market which had majour ripples in the releasing of films even by proxy causing blockbuster to go out of buissnes as they were overstocked with large amounts of vhs coursing them to go under as they had a large amount of idle stock that was unwonted
