Internet service providers began to oppose net neutrality which was one of the founding principles of the internet. Net Neutrality insured that all data sent across the internet would be treated equally regardless of the user, platform, or content. Many people protested against the removal of net Neutrality stating that Net Neutrality protects freedom of speech and ensures widespread internet access. The Federal Communications Commission ruled that Net neutrality was a required guide line for ISP to follow. This decision was very important for the future of the internet because it determines users freedom on the internet.
