feb 1, 2003 - Columbia Space Shuttle Disaster
On February 1, 2003 the Columbia space shuttle exploded upon re-entering the earth's atmosphere. This was the second fatal accident of the space shuttle program. During the launch a piece of styrofoam insulator broke off striking the left wing of the orbiter. Upon re entry into the earths atmosphere the shuttle began to break apart and eventually killed all seven crew members inside.
