3h 8min, dec 1, 1937 y - Preparation

Description:

According to Gregory Stanton, one of the 8 stages of genocide is preparation. Preparation is the act of preparing to kill the "them". IN the case of the Nanking Massacre, the preparation occurred when the Japanese Imperial Military was marching from Shanghai to Nanking. The military was preparing to bombard the city with artillery and military airplanes. This is considered preparation because this prepared the military to invade the city with little to no resistance. On the march to Nanking, the Japanese also looted and pillaged villages. This is also a part of preparation. Stanton said that a part of preparation is the expropriation of the victim's property, which is what the Japanese did to the Chinese villagers.
