aug 21, 1895 - The cinematographe was invented.
Description:
Luis and August Lumiere, with their father invented the cinematographe. This invention was extremely innovative as it improved upon the original invention for moving image, the kinetoscope. Unlike the kinetoscope it was smaller and portable. It projected the image of the film allowing public viewings, achieved without using a peep-hole but a projection, unlike the kinetoscope.
The film would be transported through the cinematographe by two pins and sprocket holes punched into the celluloid film strip. The film would run through the machine and project an enlarged version of the film, allowing public viewings of the film.
