Description:

Announcement made in Commons by General Anthony Wedgwood Benn. It cost them £1m extra for the colour broadcasts, which is roughly £18m today (in account of inflation).

Although it was a short term loss for the BBC, broadcasting in colour was a huge investment. It was important as wide-spread adoption of colour TVs was now possible; there was content to be viewed in colour.
