jan 26, 1788 - 26 January 1788 - The First Fleet
On the 26th of January 1788, 11 British ships (commonly known as the First Fleet) arrived on the shores of Botany Bay in New South Wales carrying convicts collectively from Great Britain and Ireland. Captain Arthur Phillip was the leader of this expedition and have established New South Wales as a convict colony to compensate space for the overpopulated prison back in England.
