Description:

The Soviet Union, through the Communist Government of East Germany, begin to erect the Berlin Wall. Originally made out of barbed wire, it would go on to be made out of concrete, for the purpose of keeping Western 'fascists' out of East Germany, or so claimed by the Soviets. However, it can be said that in fact the real reason was to prevent further defections made by East Germans to West Germany, in awe of its democracy and free economy.

The Berlin wall would go on to serve a lifespan of 28 years, also serving as the primary symbol of the Cold War.
