The slinky was a helical spring toy that became popular because of the numerous tricks that could be performed using it. For example, if the slinky was dropped from a flight of stairs, it would gracefully ascend each step instead of rolling down. Slinky gained popularity during 1945 and was the toy everyone had in the 50s. It was only $1, so almost all children could be seen playing with a Slinky.
Slinky was not only a toy for young children, but it was also used in classrooms as a teaching tool. It was also used by NASA for an experiment.
