The Manchurian crisis was an invasion of northeastern China by Japan in 1931. Japan 's economy and population had grown rapidly but America put harsh tariffs in place and the depression hit hard. Japan decied that these problems wouldn't pose an issue if it was an empire so the country seized Manchuria, which is a part of China. Japan had little trouble taking over, but China quickly appealed to the league. The league acted slowly in their investigation but decided that Japan had acted unlawfully and Manchuria should return to China.Added to timeline:
