dec 6, 909 - Abdullah al-Mahdi Billah became a leader

Description:

It started when Al Mahdi got signal to depart from Salamyah, he disguised as merchant. In 905, he began proselytizing. However, he was captured by the Aghlabid ruler named Ziyadat-Allah because of his Ismaili belief and was thrown into the underground dungeon in Sijilmasa. In 909, Al-Shi'i sent a great expedition to save Mahdi, conquering Khariji state of Tahert on the way there. After gaining independence, Al Mahdi became the leader of the growing nation and assumed the position of the imam and caliph. Al Mahdi then led the Kutama Berbers, which captured the towns of Qairawan and Raqqada. By March 909, the Aghlabid dynasty was overthrown and replaced by Fatimids. As a result, the last stronghold of Sunni Islam in North Africa has been removed from this region.
