The building of The Ben Yussef Madrasa
The Ben Yussef Madrasa was one of the largest Islamic college in Morocco as well as in Maghrib which roughly has over 130 rooms and has housed over 900 students during the 14th century. It was built during the reign of the Sa'did shariff which suddenly rose into power at that time and it has been reconstructed for many times to preserve its building better. These Sa’did shariff claimed to be the descendent of Prophet Muhammad and not long after that, they dominated Morocco and make Marrakesh as their capital city. This madrasa’s building was indeed important in the Islamic history and Muslims at that time as it acted as the centre for Islamic studies particularly Islamic law, science and also Al-Quran. Many of its students come from all over places to study there and many of them manage to become famous in various field. This madrasa also was one of the largest theological colleges in North Africa. In terms of art and architecture, it has greatly showed the Saâdian dynasty's craftsmanship and the details Islamic monument. Today, it contributed to the one of famous historical place included in must-go list in tourism.
