jan 20, 1897 - J.J. Thomson - Discovery of Electron and Plum Pudding Model (1897)

Description:

Thomson discovered the electron by experimenting with cathode rays and finding that they were negatively charged. He also discovered positively charged particles in neon gas. Thomson then created the plum pudding model to account for the positive and negative subatomic particles in an atom. In his model, the raisins represented the negatively charged particles while the dough of the puddings represented the positive charge.
