Francisco Coronado was born to a noble family in Salamanca, Spain. As a young man, he went to America and soon became the governor of New Galicia. In 1540 Coronado was sent on an expedition the U.S. west and find the golden cities of North America that explorers would tell stories about. A expedition held little success and most of his men died along the way. When Coronado came back to New Galicia, he was charged with corruption and negligence and was removed as governor. He returned to Mexico City until he died on September 1554.
