jun 10, 1567 - Samuel De Champlain

Description:

(1567- 1635)
Born in Brouage, France. Young Samuel learned from his father, who was a ship captain how to sail and navigate the seas. In 1603 Champlain sailed to North America to create a new colony. Though the colony had to be abandoned due to bad relations with Natives, Champlain used this time to study the North American coast. In 1608 he traveled back to North America and founded the colony of Quebec and explored as far south as modern-day New York and the Great Lakes. Champlain had also made numerous allies with the local Native American tribes. He would later die in 1635 in his colony.
