Henry was born on March 4, 1394, in Porto, Portugal. In his 20s Henry had started a campaign in Africa, he sponsored many expeditions and created many profitable colonies all along the Western and Northern coast of Africa. Henry had set up a fort on the southern tip of Portugal called Villa do Infante. Henry had the best navigators and explorers pioneer many maritime techniques and teach captains and navigators how to use maps and many tools. This made Portugal very wealthy in the spice trade with China and India.
