Description:

Lavoisier and other chemist placed a diamond inside a closed glass jar. He used a giant magnifying glass to focus the sun's rays on the diamond and burned it, until it disappeared. He realized that the weight of the jar did not change, after the Diamond was burned. When burned charcoal he discovered the same gas was produced as the diamond. This lead him to belive that diamonds and charcoal are different forms of the same element, he called carbon
