jan 1, 1614 - New Netherlands Colony

Description:

This was the first Dutch colony in North America and a series of trading posts, small towns, and small forts were the building blocks for many towns that still exist in modern-day America. The Spanish, Italian, and the Europeans were the ones to first colonize this area before the Dutch took over. Henry Hudson established the final colony in modern-day New York and the main reason for colonization was the fur trade.
