jul 1, 1954 - Geneva Accords

Description:

Representatives from all over the world, congregate in Geneva, to sign the Geneva Accords, ending the Indochinese War between the Viet Minh and the French. Here, the Viet Minh proved too overbearing for the French. Soviet and Chinese troops were needed to be recalled, back to their states, for the focus upon domestic issues. This put pressures on the French to withdraw, however this would also mean that National Government would potentially come under Communism. This created a sense of urgency in this part of the world, for Americans, fearing a 'domino effect.'

The Geneva Accords also:
- Made Laos and Cambodia independent
- Divided Vietnam along the 17th parallel
- Hold democratic elections in two years time in Vietnam.
