jul 27, 1953 - End of the Korean War

Description:

Even though in 1948, both US and Soviet troops were withdrawn from Korea, for the purpose of deploying them elsewhere, North Korea invaded South Korea for the reunification of the state under Communism.

And so, 3 years after its invasion, and after the casualty toll of 54,246 men, the war did not end, but come to a halt.

This halt came after Stalin's death, and the appointment of new US President, Dwight Eisenhower. Eisenhower, and also newly appointed leader of the Soviets, Khrushchev, felt that no longer could they utilise their troops under this war, also one with no end in sight.

Therefore, an armistice was signed in 1953, along the 38th parallel, which divides the two states up until today.
