Following a Zulu succession war in 1884, local Boers who assisted King Dinuzulu were granted land, which was formed into the New Republic.However, the British did not want for this nation to have access to the sea and annexed of the Saint Lucia bay in 1885.
In 1888 The nation requested to be annexed to the British Protectorate of Transvaal [A Boer State with self-governance] rather than risk becoming a British Colony. The British, not wishing to put in the effort of subjugating the republic allowed the annexation later that year.
