may 21, 1492 BC - The Reconquista ended.

Description:

RECONQUEST

The Reconquista is the period of the Iberian Peninsula's history between the Battle of Covodonga (718), the first victory of Christian military forces since the Islamic Invasion, and the eventual ended with the conquest of the last Islamic kingdom of Granada in 1492. The reason I choose this event because it marked the fall of Islamic empire in Andalusia after one another. The Muslims were forced to convert to Catholicism or leave the country that once belonged to them. It also gave rise to Spanish inquisition, spread of Muslim and Jews throughout Europe and exploitation of the America.

The Reconquista was a very significant event in Spain. The Reconquista refers to the defeat of the Moors, or Muslims in Spain in 1492 by the Christian. Granada was the only area that had resisted the Reconquista -the campaign that kicked the Arabs out of Spain and which had come to a halt after the fall of Jerez de la Frontera in 1264- and thus, the only Arab Emirate in the otherwise unified country. Its inhabitants wouldn't conform to the kingdom's rules.

When King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella ruled Spain, they plan for the conquest of Granada due to the catholic monarchs inaction was impossible, and the fact that it was a Muslim emirate in a catholic kingdom troubled them greatly. The Reconquista was complete when the last Moorish stronghold the city of Granada, fell. The Christians took over Spain. They expelled the Moors and the Jews from Spain who refused to convert to Christianity.
