In 460 BCE, while he was living in Abdera he theorized the atom. He believed that matter was made of small particles that he called atoms. He was never able to prove his theory and it was widely discredited. He was born wealthy and traveled around Greece, meeting lots of famous figures like: Anaxagoras, Hippocrates, Socrates, and Plato
