jan 1, 667 - Uqba' ibn Nafs in Qayrawan

Description:

The great march begin when the governor of Egypt , Uqba' Ibn Nafs established the great fortress of Qayrawan which currently now in Tunisia.Uqba marched hundreds of miles without any major confrontation. After crossing the territory now named as Tunisia, Libya, Algeria and Morocco, he triumphantly reached up to the shores of the Atlantic ocean. However, in west, he encountered heavy resistance from both the Byzantines and the Christians Berber tribesmen after the battles against the Byzantine and their fortresses was captured. Some of the Byzantines than retreated to Sicily in need of help with the royal succession. Uqba' then was dismissed and been replaced by Abu al-Muhajir from Alexandria. It was said that Uqba was unable to take Carthage which known to be the stronghold of Byzantine Empire in Tunisia.
