Later, he conquered and became the Governor of Egypt . Byzantine Roman Empire loss their stronghold to Umayyad Caliphate. Moreover, Amr's army came from myriads of clans such as from Yemen ( Mahra, Hadramawt and etc). In Cyrenaica ( nowadays Barqa) , 4000 thousand men participate in this conquest. Though there was an opposition in Tripoli, in Libya, there was no opposition which is because of the peace treaty with local Berbers of Luwata. However, Amr was dismissed from his position in 645, and he was replaced by Abdullah ibn Sarh. During his rule as a governor in Egypt, he organized the system of taxation, the administration of justice and founded the garrison city of Al-Fusṭāṭ adjacent to Babylon, where he built a mosque (still standing) bearing his name.
