may 10, 1869 - The last spike
Description:
The presidents of the Union Pacific and Central Pacific railroads meet in Promontory Utah and drive a ceremonial last spike into a rail line that connects their railroads. They also kept track on how many people died during the whole process and about 50 to 150 due to snow slides, landslides, explosions falls, and other accidents.
