jan 1, 1871 - Ernest Rutherford
Description:
He was a British physicist, born in 1871 in New Zealand, died in 1957 in New Zealand. Rutherford came up with the Rutherford atomic model, which stated that the atom as a dense, positively charged nucleus surrounded by electrons. He discovered this through his experiments with thin gold foil, most particles passed right through the gold foil, while some deflected, which led him to believe that the atom was mostly open space, but that positively charged particles existed in the atom. He also discovered that atoms are not indestructible while researching radioactivity, he was the first person to split the atom. Facts- Rutherford was the 4th of 12 children, he also studied X-rays with J.J. Thomson.
