aug 12, 1765 - Diwani rights

Description:

In 1765, the East India Company (EIC) got the Diwani rights to collect taxes and decide civil cases in Bengal, Bihar and Orissa, under the treaty of Allahabad.

The Treaty marks the political and constitutional involvement and the beginning of British rule in India. The company was called upon to encourage education among its subjects on the lines of the earlier Hindu and Muslim rulers. But these initiatives were restricted few centres of higher learning.
