aug 9, 2007 - The Red One

Description:

In August of 2007 the first ever 4K Digital Camera, called 'RED ONE' was released to the public, it was invented by Jim Jannard.

His vision was to create a digital camera that could be as good, or even better, than 35 mm film while being significantly smaller, more portable, and ultimately more affordable.

They built a camera that could record RAW, 4K images and in amazing resolution and up to 60 frames per second.

Before it was even released, many big directors and production companies saw the potential in the 'RED ONE' and pre-ordered it years before, this gave the company a lot of attention.

Before this, setting up a camera and the tape took time, effort and money, with the RED ONE you could take it straight out of the box and use it straight away, making it practically better than film. One of the most significant early effects of the RED cameras was how the company made shooting in RAW image format an industry standard. It gave editors and directors far more control in processing and editing their footage as there was less converting steps, it could directly go through colour correction, contrast enhancement and compression.

It also made every major camera company convert to digital and only produce digital, changing the entire foundation of how movies are shot and launching us into the digital era of cinema; which has bought a whole ocean of new opportunities in special effects and many other technological advancements in film and the world as a whole. The change in cameras, caused a change in style and approach to shooting films, which is still being developed and explored today.
