The first and most recognizable film of the 70mm boom, Ben-Hur employed one of the most enigmatic practices of cinema. 70 millimeter cinematography provides a higher resolution and traditionally a wider image. However, it was too expensive for most productions and required a special projector to run, preventing it from being shown in its intended form coast to coast.
