Description:

The Western allies combine their zones in Germany to form West Germany. Following the failures of the London Conference of Foreign Ministers, the Allies felt that creating such would be the most suitable means moving forward, posing as a practical option, given that Germany was not to be reunified.

Initially France displayed hostility towards the idea, in fears of yet another German uprising. This would be suppressed as the US vowed to station troops in West Germany, whilst also making West Germans accept the Occupation Statute. Here the Western allies would have powers over trade, foreign relations and disarmament.

Furthermore, West Germany would emlpoy a new currency, the Deutschmark.
