jan 3, 1896 - Plessy v. Ferguson
Description:
The Plessy v. Ferguson case began when the state of Louisiana passed a law that separated different accommodations between whites and blacks, such as railroad cars. A group of citizens comprised of both blacks and whites tried to fight the law and persuaded a man named Homer Plessy, a man of mixed races, to fight against the law. Though Plessy argued that the law went against the 14th amendment, the final decision was against him 7-1. The case took place between April to May of 1896 and the case legitimized the segregation and even led to the creation of more segregation laws.
