jan 1, 1865 - 13th Amendment

Description:

The 13th Amendment abolished slavery. It was ratified in 1865 when most of the Northern States, and some of the reconstructing Southern States voted for it. Even though Lincoln had proclaimed that slaves were free in his Emancipation Proclamation, it wasn’t decided until this point which made it a very important Amendment. However, even though slavery was finally abolished, this did not mean blacks were treated equal. Things such as Black Codes, white supremacist groups, and enforcement of statutes still created an unequal work labor, especially in the Southern states.
