In this election, the Republicans selected William McKinley again, while the Democrats nominated William Jennings Bryan. Bryan went around campaigning and stressing for the free coinage of silver. McKinley, however, did not actively campaign and relied only on the revival of the economy during his last term. Once again, the Republicans came out on top with McKinley winning.
