jun 29, 500 BC - Greco-Persian Wars (500-479 B.C.E.)

Description:

The Greco-Persian wars were a group of conflicts between the Greek city-states and the Achaemenid empire. It started when Darius attempted to take over the rich Greece states. The most prominent battle in this war was the Battle of Marathon. The Marathon, a 26 mile race, was named after this battle after a soldier ran back to Athens 26 miles, delivered a message, and died on the spot. The scuffles lasted for about 150 years, but the Greeks came out on top.
