jul 9, 1908 - the migration of film to south California

Description:

in 1908 there was a large shift in the film industry in america more specifically where the films were being made and produced as the most filmmakers migrated from new York and the east cost in general, this event happened for numerous reasons the big one being Edison charged film makers for every foot of film making film making a expensive profession that could bankrupt most studios as well as Edison having a iron grip over the industry in the aria making it hard to make any films. these actions taken by Edison made it hard for a lot of filmmakers to produce films this lead to them moving down to the south of California which ended up being an advantage for them as it meant they had more space to film and build studios, the weather was less unpredictable as the weather was less predictable in new York this made filming a lot easier and it was all around cheaper to produce films. This is a key point in film history in my eyes as it shows how the industry is unpredictable and cant be monopolized on by one person or company this also founded California as the heart of film
