jan 1, 1925 - Stop-Motion Animation Brings Dinosaurs to Life

Description:

Film special effects pioneer, Willis O'Brien, brought dinosaurs 'back to life' through his film The Lost World, using stop motion technology. This was done by moving miniature models of the Dinosaurs, one frame at a time.

Willis' special effects pioneered the future of filmmaking as he started a wave of films that included elements such as dinosaurs, aliens and other creatures that hadn't been seen in films before because of them not being real. As special effects were relatively new in this sense at the time, seeing these creatures deeply shocked the audience as the majority of films seen before only showed things that were real or able to be acted to be in the film. Some filmmakers claimed to have used real dinosaurs in their films in order to attract attention, they got away with it because of the publics naivety at the time to new advances in special effects.
