dec 15, 1978 - Laserdisc Format
Description:
Yet another format in competition with Betamax and VHS, this format is closer to what we know today as optical media. Laserdisc never gained the marketshare of the likes of it's competition, but is worth remembering due to it's quality and resemblance to more modern formats.
It was developed by David Paul Gregg and James Russel in 1956, but the company Philips developed the reflective technology that was used in Laserdisc.
It's significance lives on, since this was the first time optical media was available to the consumer. It would later be developed further into DVD.
