Stalingrad is a city in Southern Russia. Germany and its allies fought against the Soviet Union for authority over the city. Thus, it lead to the battle. Now, Germany was not the only authoritative European power. There were many other powerful countries in the West. Southern Russia was a region that many superpowers wanted to control. Thus, the Battle of Stalingrad occured due to conflict over the authority of Germany and its allies.
