nov 1, 1478 - The establishment of Spanish Inquisition

Description:

The idea on the establishment of Spanish Inquisition came from the Catholic monarchs consisting of Queen Isabella I and King Ferdinand II. Their main purpose was to investigate the Christian converts, specifically those who had to choose between conversion and expulsion but were still engaged in religious practices of their former religions, mainly Judaism and Islam. To do so, the monarchs appointed several inquisitors above the age of forty to fulfill the mission by interrogating people who followed Christianity including Orthodox, Protestants and Blaspheming Catholics but suspected to exercise their old faiths. The establishment of this organisation is crucial to be noted as it clearly showed the aggression committed by the monarchs and religious leaders through the limitation of religious freedom given to the people.
