jun 25, 1319 - Disaster of Vega De Granada

Description:

The Disaster of the Vega de Granada, better known as Battle of Sierra Elvira, involves fights between Kingdom of Granada and Kingdom of Castile. The event initially started with usual military raids by troops from the Castile kingdom led by infant Peter in which at the time, they decided to march deep into the wealthy city of Granada and reached Vega De Granada. It ended with a disastrous defeat for Castile with a huge amount of loss being estimated after King Ismail I sent his reinforcements which consisted of a large force of elite Moorish troop to fight back. In my opinion, the event can be seen as significant because from that point onwards, the Castile’s border became less defensive which allowed the Muslim troops from Granada to raid southern Castilian territories.
