Soon thereafter she continued her education and came to the United states to learn English in Madison, Wisconsin. Some of her friends from the orphanage came to the United States.
One day, a friend of hers who lived in Chicago, Illinois said she should go and live with her. This friend shared a common link. This link was their Sponsor, who sent them letters, money and gifts while they attended the orphanage. She was a very beautiful older lady and gave a lot to less fortunate kids, and she also originally came from Honduras and so knew first hand what they were going through. My mother accepted her friends offer and moved in with her continuing to learn English and the American culture, which she knew nothing about. In Chicago, she was exposed to many different cultures thus defining her concept of America, the melting pot. Also, she contemplated advancing her education in nursing here. However, after living there for a short while, she realized that she really enjoyed Madison, Wisconsin and considered moving back. She was currently in a mainly spanish speaking environment which made it harder to really learn english. She needed a place that would immerse her in the an english speaking environment.
Madison was a melting pot of many cultures, but was much more laid back and full of students her own age. It is settled between two smaller lakes, and the beauty really pulled at her to return. She decided to move back to Madison to get immersed in the English language to accelerate learning it.
This is a milestone because it was the start of a new life for her. She became an american by learning the laguish and the culture.
