5 h, aug 19, 1942 y - The Dieppe Raid

Description:

The Dieppe Raid was an attack led by Britain, Free France, the United States, and Canada. The raid was held on August 19th 1942 after Dieppe had become a Nazi territory. The attack started at 5:00 am. 5000 Canadian troops, 1000 British troops, and 50 US troops were sent to the battleground. The Royal Canadian Air Force bombed Dieppe while the British and French attacked from the ground. Of the 6086 men who made it on shore, nearly 60% were killed by German artillery. The Allied forces were forced to leave at 10:50 am because they were losing the battle. While the Allied forces lost the battle and nearly 4000 soldiers, they learned a lot about German artillery. This battle contributed towards future raids as the Allies learned about German artillery and they were ready for their tactics and weapons by creating better battle plans.
