jan 1, 1355 - Peter and Ines
Description:
In the 14th century the king of Portugal, Peter I, and Ines de Castro shared a forbidden romance. Although he was married to two other women for political matters, Peter found true love when he met Ines. The two met in secret, as their relationship was not approved by the king, Peter's father. After years of trying to convince the king to let them marry, they did so in secret. However, when Peter went away on a trip, his father ordered assassins to kill Ines. Once she was murdered, Peter declared war on his father. Eventually his father passed away, leaving Peter as the ruler. He ordered the execution of the assassinations who had killed Ines, and actually had his deceased bride declared the queen of Portugal.
