Herman Hollerith was an American inventor of a tabulating machine that was an important precursor of the electronic computer. He was born on February 29, 1860 in Buffalo, New York and died November 17, 1929 in the U.S. capitol, Washington D.C. When growing up Hollerith attended the Columbia University of Mines then temporarily moved to Massachusetts--only to settle in Washington D.C. where he would later die at age 69.
