jan 1, 1895 - The Lumiere brothers patented the Cinematograph

Description:

The Lumiere brothers improved Edison's design by making it lighter and quieter. The Cinematograph works as both a camera and a projector, so that more than one person could view the film which is something that could not be done with Edison's design.

The Cinematograph was important to film making as it was the first viable film camera being able to film, develop and project film. The Cinematograph was used to create what is considered the first motion picture, “La Sortie des ouvriers de l’usine Lumière” (“Workers Leaving the Lumière Factory”) which is a short film of workers leaving the Lumière Factory.
