may 6, 1960 - Civil Rights Act of 1960

Description:

The Civil Rights Act of 1960 is passed. This bill requires federal inspection of voter registration areas, and created penalties for those who obstructed anyone’s attempt to register to vote. This bill worked to remove even more barriers to African Americans voting in the South. It also closed many loopholes by the previous civil rights bill, the Civil Rights Act of 1957.
