WRAL is the first channel to begin broadcasting in HD, however it wasn't until 2009 that HD was globalised - and then only because of a government mandate. Limited people were initially invited to view these first HD broadcasts.

This changed the TV industry as it raised the bar of broadcasting definition for all other networks, causing a quick rise for HD as they wanted to catch up to WRAL's current standard.
