The original avatar film took the #1 place in highest grossing films from 'Titanic' with approximately $2.7 billion in gross revenue, approximately $500 million above Titanic.

This changed the film industry as the film was made almost entirely using CGI, at the time there was a lot of discussion based around if CGI was good for films and that it didn't make them any better. Avatar becoming the highest grossing film at the time when it was made almost entirely on CGI
